RT: For those who didn’t know you, Who’s Einat Dan?
ED: Einat Dan is an international makeup artist focused on beauty, fashion, creative makeup and bodypainting; working for editorials, campaigns, and giving workshops around the world, sharing her knowledge of 20 years of experience. She is also the owner of MIA by Einat Dan, a brand of makeup brushes and some special products for makeup. She’s also the Art Director of many fashion editorials.
RT: How started your passion for makeup?
ED: I always loved makeup since I was very young, always did my friends makeup. I was also a dancer so I used to do the makeup for the dancers as well. I never thought of being makeup artist, but to continue to dance on stage. When I was 21 years old I realized I couldn’t dance for ever and while I was walking in Tel Aviv, Israel, my hometown I saw a makeup school. I came closer and saw plenty of pictures of makeup and bodypaint, and I realized this was going to be my career. Two weeks later I enrolled to the makeup school but very soon the manager sent me for jobs and from there my passion continue to grow. Since then I’ve learned everything from my own till today.
RT: Which one is your favorite collaboration along your whole career? (magazine, photographer, designer and celebrity).
ED: I think every collaboration is special, because I love meeting new people.
But my 2 favorite photographers I’m working with are Matteo Bertolio and Ben Asif. I love Matteo, he’s a worldwide photographer, working in Italy, Mexico and Spain. And Ben Asif is an Israeli photographer based in Germany, but working all over the world, I share with him the same vision on photography.
It’s always challenging when the client trust me and give me the chance to be the Art Director, choose the models, the theme, and photographer, and be the makeup artist, of course.
Every production is unique.
RT: Someone you would love to work?
ED: My dream is to work with Lady Gaga.
RT: Talking about trends, tell us some for the next season.
ED: For winter, it’s always trendy the natural looks with dark lips. We’ll see the combination of burgundy and blue.
For the eyes: All the shades of brown.
For the lips.: Some purple tones, and of course red lipstick is always “in”.
RT: Some tips to get the natural makeup look
ED: Liquid foundation is always a good base. Light brown eye shadow on the eyelid. Mascara will always make us look glamorous , a touch of peach/light pink blush. And nude lip-gloss or natural matte color of lipstick.
RT: How could we choose the right lipstick, eye shadow and blush tone?
ED: It’s always important to consider that either you do strong eye shadow or strong lipstick, never both.
For eye shadow is important to consider the eye color and skin tone. Doesn’t have to be the same shade but the contrast color will always make your eyes more pretty. For example for blue or green eyes, purple or grey eye shadow will be perfect. Is good to know that brown eye shadow fits almost every skin tone.
Blush needs to be very natural, depending on your skin tone. Could be peach or pink.
About lipsticks, intense colors doesn’t match every woman. Some women look better with nude or natural colors, and for some is better strong colors.
It all depends on skin tone, hair color and style.
RT: Last but not least, how was your experience and perception with the mexican makeup artists and clients?
ED: I love them!
The makeup artists are very talented in beauty makeup. In my opinion, it would be great to give them more options to develop the creative side of makeup.
It was a big dream to work in Mexico, and finally my friend and manager Milena Romo invited me to Mexico, her hometown. I really hope to continue collaborate with her and get to work with more Mexican artists. I love working with her because she is a very good makeup artist and it’s always better to work with someone from the industry. Because there was a lot of interest, I’m actually coming back in 1 month to give some workshops.
